Galactic and Globular Clusters – Jewelboxes of the Night

• When the gas in a star formation region finally is used up or dissipates, an open or Galactic cluster remains. These clusters have from several hundred to several thousand stars.

This open cluster is actually named The Jewelbox! The orange star is dying.

• Globular clusters are much larger, with several hundred thousand to one million stars. They also are very spherical.
